Jean Baptiste Lafond/Lafont

"I am trying to determine the origin of the Lafont family. I read a post saying that Lafont is an Occitan name and most likely originated from Gascony. I am trying to determine where the family of Jean Baptiste Lafond came from. Is Lafond a name from the same region? The oldest information that I have is that Jean Baptiste Lafond came from France originally. He was born in 1739, possibly in Nantes, France but I am not sure of that location.
He went to the West Indies where he was a physician and on the the United States in 1764. He entered through Florida in that year where he went on to Kaskaskia, Illinois. Some books state that he was a native of the West Indies, so his parents may have originated in France. His children werre named Bernard, Louis, Antoine, Elizabeth, Rosalie, and Marie. Antoine's line, which is the largest, went by Lafont. That is the line that I am from.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Please contact me at Thank you very much."
