First, a CORRECTION. At this point in my research, it appears that still another Joseph was my great-great grandfather. However, I shall not again state anything as definite. Here is what I have as of this date. Georges Lefollett, son of Jean Lefollett, was born circa 1749 on the Isle of Jersey or, according to another source, in the Province of Anjou, France. Around 1750, the Lefollett family migrated to the New Jersey colony. During the French and Indian War, Jean was massacred (1760). His sons, Joseph, Georges and Charles, were off on an errand and escaped being killed. In 1769, Georges married Jemima Minthorne. He served with the Continental Forces in the War of Revolution and was mustered out in Norfolk, Virginia in 1883. He next appears in Frederick Co., Virginia (now West Virginia) contracting marriage with Sarah Stansbury 26 June 1797. (Their son, Joseph, had been born 30 November 1796.) Joseph married Elizabeth Peterson (date?) in Harrison Co., VA(WVA) and their eldest son, John, was born in 1817. It was from a biography of John that my cousin, Jerilyn La Follette Batt, copied for me from a Jay County archive at Ball State, that I was able to piece together this history. In 1823, Joseph and Elizabeth moved to Kentucky. In 1826, they moved again, to Warren Co., Ohio. In 1838, they visited Jay County, Indiana, for a year, returning in 1839 to Ohio. In 1842, they returned to Jay County for good. Elizabeth died in 1862 and Joseph on 30 July 1868; they are buried in Liber Cemetary in Pike Twp. Over five moves and twenty-five years of childbearing, they produced twelve living children, seven sons and five daughters. The first was John (1817) and the last(I think) was Calvin (1842), my great-grandfather. I do not have a list of the rest; perhaps somebody can help me there.
I now have the full results of my Y-DNA test. I am ready to compare them with any other La Follette male who has been or will be tested.
Trish: to answer you concisely: Joseph La Follette b. 30 November 1796; d. 30 July 1868.
