Since I found that Samuel Lafon reference in 1758 in Lunenburg Co., Virginia, I checked the International IGI. I was very interested to find the following information:

SAMUELLE LE FIN christened 07 Sept 1600 Threadneedle Street, French Huguenot, London, England.
Son of JERY LE FIN.

Now I know that the "Lafon" Huguenots sometimes spelled their name (or it was misspelled) on French Huguenot church records as "Le Fin" or "La Fin", etc.

Hmmm......This is just a wild thought, but......Could "JERY LE FIN" be "JERY LAFON or LAFOON?" Could his actual name be JEREMIAH LAFON/LAFOON? Nathaniel Laf(f)oon named a son "JEREMIAH LAFFOON". Could this be where the name comes from????? Could Jery Le Fin be the father of Samuel, Nathaniel, and Matthew? Just throwing this out there for thought.
