Hi, Simone,
Your story was told to me 40 years ago by my aunt who is now 95.She is the sole surviving sibling of my father, John Joseph Laffey who was born in Bangor, Maine in 1911.His father was also John Joseph from Irelandand his father was Patrick from Ireland....somewhere. He had at least one brother, Michael.Their great grandfather was wanted by Mary, Queen of Scotts with a price on his head.He fled to France with the family silver. He returned some time later. The origin of the family was evidently on the coast of France (Le Fey) when William the Conquerer conscripted locals for the invasion of England and Ireland.Le Fey was corrupted to Liffey, Laffey, Lippey, etc.Note the river Liffey...may have been named for one of the Le Feys.
