From John Paul Grady of Spring, Texas who writes:Sarah Lafferty, apparently a widow at the time she purchased land in Rutherford County.I've never discovered the name of her husband, not even any "possibilities/probabilities."She moved to Cumberland Co., Kentucky, by 13 August 1800 (DB A:44).I do not know the arrival date of Alexander Lafferty, he also came to Cumberland Co, Kentucky.The names of Alexander's children as per his will: William Francis, Mary Ann, Samuel, John A., Elizabeth, Anthony, Alexander,Sally, Hyram and Edmund L.Alexander's wife was LyddiaSmith, who in her later years lived with her son Anthony Lafferty in Lawrence, Co., Arkansas.Samuel Lafferty, my ancestor, Alexander's brother, had also married a Smith. I have never known for sure,I believe the two Smith ladies to have been sisters.Anyway, the first wife died shortly after their marriage and he, Samuel, then married on 5 April 1808, Cumberland Co., Kentucky, to Sarah (Sallie) Chandler.They were parents of four children (all born Cumberland Co., Kentucky)1. Thomas Lafferty b 1810 married Elizabeth Smith.2. Frances Lafferty, b 23 Sep 1812 married: (1) about 1828 William Bybee,(2) 19 Aug 1830 Allen Smith. (3) 7 Nov 1846 Thompson Mason.3. Kentucky, John Lafferty of Mercer County in the state of Kentucky who was a private in the regiment commanded by Colonel Van Schaick of the New York line for the term of three years.Inscribed on the Roll of Kentucky at the rate of 8 dollars per month, to commence on the 6th of July 1818.Certificate of Pension issued the 16th of Feb 1819 and sent to the Hon. V.W. Johnson, House of Representatives U. States.Appears to 4th Sept 1818.$15.76.Semi- anal.all'ce ended 4 Mar 1819 $48. (total) $63.76.Continued.Mercer County.Revolutionary claim.Act 18th March, 1818.He had been in Kentucky for 25 years when he applied for pension.He was 69 at the time and residing in Mercer County, Kentucky.

National Archives Files #S42813.John Lafferty, born New York.Served as a private in the 4th Regiment of North Carolina, commanded by Colonel Thomas Polk.Applied for this pension while living in Tioga Co., Pennsylvania.Deposition dated 20 Sept 1820, John Lafferty states that he is 65 years old.Living with him is a grandchild, Lucy Bruce, age four and also "my Phebe aged fifth seven years and infirmed like myself."This date would make him born about 1755 and his wife about 1763.

"1864 Nov 2 -- Last night, Robert Graham living near Peeke's Mills, Franklin Co., was shot and killed-- it is said by Wm. Marshall and his men. At twilight this evening, S. Thomas Hunt, a young lawyer from Maysville (captured on his way to the Confederate army, in which he had enlisted, Thor. Lafferty, an old man and political prisoner, and two others, names not ascertained, were taken by a military escort form the Lexington jail to the lower corner of Maj. Hunt's pasture in South Frankfort.At their request, Rev. B.B. Sayre offered a fervent prayer.As soon as....."

Vol IIpage 550In the year 1776, what is now Mason county fairly swarmed with visitors and improvers from Virginia and Pennsylvania........Two of these companies came in the latter part of January.One composed of David Perry, John Lafferty, Hugh Shannon [one of the company who in June, 1775, had given the name of Lexington to the spot where that beautiful city was founded in 1779], Joseph Blackford, and John Warfield --improved on Lawrence creek where Joseph Wilson found them.
Other companies in 1776 were: One of 7- Samuel Boggs, Wm. Lindsay, Joseph Lindsay, John Vance, David Vance, Andrew Steele, and Wm. Bartlett ....who built 2 cabins for each, this making 14 improvements, mainly on Mill creek and its branches.
