So glad to hear from you.I have more than one version of Abraham's descendants, and would like to know the correct one.Was the maiden name of wife Elizabeth ever found?
I have an article from the Historical Review of Berks County PA, Vol. II, Jan, 1937, p. 42, entitled "PA German Potteries of Berks County, by Guy F. Reinert. It mentioned that Mr. Reinert would be publishing a book on this subject. There is a short paragraph in it:
Griesemer Potteries - Hereford, Berks County
Leonard Griesemer owned and operated the first Griesemer pottery. He died in 1821 and was succeeded by his grandson, Gabriel G. Griesemer, who operated the pottery until 1865, when it was destroyed by fire. The pottery made the usual line of red earthenware and roofing tiles.Jacob Griesemer, son of Leonard, also operated a pottery on the farm adjoining that of his father. This pottery operated until 1850.During the latter years, Jocob Frederick operated it.
On page 43 is a photo of one of the dishes from the Griesemer Pottery.I went to the area after seeing this article, and found a replica of the type of pottery that was made, and couldn't resist buying it.I can scan this photo to you if you would like.
This is very interesting to me.Since John Lefevre lived with his daughter Elizabeth in Hereford, I'm wondering if your line may have apprenticed with the Griesemers. They stayed in business for quite some time.Have you seen any of the earlier pottery in your line?
I found entries for Wentz' church and others that I've been trying to connect with your Abraham.Would love to know if they were part of your line.
Thanks again for writing.
Penny
