I am familiar with the Lafever Line, since much of it is on the Internet.
However, I have found that John Lafever b. 1799 had 3 sons that have not been recorded for him, and apparently have been missed. This is partly why I posted him on GenForum.
Records indicates John Lafever was married to Nancy Martin, four children recorded as being hers. I have additional information that says otherwise. John's first wife is unknown, and the dates I am working with tells me that Nancy Martin is not the mother of John Lafever's children, but their stepmother. I cannot locate the parents or siblings of this Nancy Martin b. SC who married John Lafever probably after 1837-1838 and before the 1850 DeKalb Co Tn Census Records.
Nancy Martin is found for the first time in any record in the 1850 DeKalb Co Tn Census Records as being married to John Lafever b. 1799. The 1830 Census White Co Tn shows John Lafever with wife same age as he, and three sons under 10 yrs in the 1830 Census.
Nancy Martin most likely the mother of Mary Martin b. 1828 married John Elrod, and my great grandmother, Hixy Martin b. 1832 m. Jacob C. Barr in April 1854. In Nancy and John's home is Ammon Martin b. 1837 who is found in DeKalb Co Tn records as being the son of an older Ammon Martin and Lois DeWeese, born August 1822 and was 15 yrs old at the birth of her son, Ammon Asbury Martin b. August 10, 1837.
For the past several months now, I have taken a much closer look at this household, and I have arrived at the conclusion that Nancy Martin is the mother of Mary and Hixy and probably the aunt of Ammon Asbury Martin. Nancy's maiden name might be DeWeese, but haven't found any proof of her parents or siblings.
This is an older John Lafever than the one you have.
This household of Nancy Martin and John Lafever is presenting some problems in relation to the Martin family members found in their home plus four of John Lafever's children counted in his home plus the additional three sons found recently in the 1830 White Co Tn Census Records which were not recorded as being his sons until I posted them.
This household has been my challenge recently, trying to determine who had who.
I am now quite certain that Nancy Martin is the step-mother to all seven or eight children of John Lafever and an unknown first wife.
Fairfax, Virginia is well known by me also, since that is where some of my husband's family migrated from in Nov 1822 to Smith Co Tn.
