Rick,

Thanks for your message. Yes, Jennifer's great-grandfather Theophile IS different than yours!... he was most probably his nephew! I believe the Norbert (your Theophile's brother who was born in 1867) is Jennifer's Theophile's (born 1889) father, and was probably married ca 1888 in Lowell to a lady named Angelina. I have been doing Franco-American genealogy since 1975, and believe me, I do know what I am doing when it comes to this! The only marriage repertoire I did NOT have was for the parish of St-Jean-Matha (Joliette Cty.), Quebec. I have the marriage repertoires for all the other parishes in the county and Berther county as well in my library, and have searched them all quite thoroughly. The occurance of a Norbert and Theophile in the same family (as brothers), and then later as father/son, is to me a red flag that I am on the right track. A friend of mine will be going to NEHGS or the MA Archives next week and hopefully will find the marriage record in Lowell which will hopefully prove my theory regarding the connection between your family and hers. Jennifer's Laferriere and yours' are related...in fact, ALL the Laferrieres are related and descend from the same ancestor in Canada. My curiosity is just how closely, and at this point, I believe it may be very close indeed. My reason for the interest in this problem is that Jennifer's great-grandfather Theophile remarried one of my cousins, a Boudreau in Newport, RI in 1931. I want to know Theophile's mother's maiden name for my recently published 4,000 page genealogical dictionary of the Magdalen Islands, Quebec, which I am reediting for a CD version. When I find out more info, I will let you know what the connection is, if there is one. Thanks again for your response, and for the web site address, which I found a most interesting resource for the Lowell area. Wish they would print more vital records on line. Will be in touch, Dennis Boudreau
