Your Charles B Sherman appears to be my great grandmother Kate Sherman's older brother. I knew he existed, because his name appears on both his parents' estate records, but I couldn't find where he'd gone when he left Indiana. Now I see, from the 1880 census record, that it must be him. He is born in the right year (1830), in Indiana, father born in NC, mother born in Indiana. By the way, the 1880 index gives the wrong birth states for him as well as his parents. When you look at the actual record, it is IN NC IN, but the transcriber accidently copied the row above it.
So, cousin, let me know if you want more information. I have information on his parents and brothers and sisters, and some possibilities for some of his grandparents. That Sherman family is very hard to trace! But we've made some progress nevertheless.
