One more thought regardeing our LaFave family. You mentioned an adoption and I am also pursuing an adoption of a Francis, Edward or Frank LeFave to George Jerow/Geroux, (other spelling variations) This adoptee had a son, with middle name Edward.
Family lived in Gladstone, Garden and Ironwood areas of MI
