Hello Jason:

I was curious about the name too so about 25 years ago I began looking for some answers. I traced my family back to Peter Lady (1792-1873) and put together a book in 1990 about what I found. He apparently was born in Pennsylvania.
If you want to know what country the name came from, the earliest person with that specific last name I found was Zachary Lady arriving in Virginia in 1650. In the 1700s persons who eventually used the spelling of Lady had the name at times spelled differently, Such as: Leady, Laydee or Leidy. We don't seem to know much about where their families came from since they seem to have been born in this country. In the 1800s there were persons using the Lady name who came from England, Germany and Ireland.
Do you know which family line you are in?
