Hello Mr. Lady,

Thank you for your reply. We know very little about the progenitors of our modern Fouke family, except that they were a couple named Michal and Sophia Fouke, who lived in colonial-era Shepherdstown, (West) Virginia. Sometimes Sophie,or Sophia, was referred to as Sophie Lady. I just wonder if that could have been her surname. I have discovered at least 2 possible candidates who were from Germanic areas of Europe in the early 1700's (possibly spelled LADE as well),but I have yet to follow through. As you know, those things take much time!
