I received the Pension Records for Jefferson Lady today and will give some innformation from them!
James Jefferson Lady, b. December 1838, d. February 16 1914, in Carroll Co., Ky, m. Isabelle Bates on September 27, 1871. Her mother married John Embrey when Isabelle was very small. She states that she was never married to anyone by the name of Embrey. She was married to Elisha Lunsford. When she got her divorce, she went by the name of Lunsford. She was married to Jefferson Lady by the name of Isabelle Lunsford. She was also called Elizabeth. She was five or six years older than Jefferson. She states that she and Jefferson were raised in the mountains and could not read or write.
They lived together four or five years before they were married and had two children, Lucy and Laura before they were married.
Jefferson Lady and Isabelle Bates children living on May 4, 1898 were:
1. Lucy Lady b. April 27, 1866
2. Laura Lady b. January 2, 1868
3. Jefferson Lady b. April 27, 1871
4. James Lady b. May 4, 1872
5. Susanna Lady b. May 29, 1874
6. Robert Lady b. May 22, 1876
7. Sam P. Lady b. April 4, 1878
Jefferson was 5'-9", dark skin, blue eyes, dard hair. Another reference said he had dark eyes.
He was from Estill Co. and after the war, they lived in Carroll Co. 10-12 years, then Estill Co. 10-12 years, Indianapolis, Indiana about six years and then returned to Carroll Co. where he died. They lived in
Worthville, Carroll Co., Ky.
I hope this information will help our Lady family members. I am the g-granddaughter of Jefferson Lady's brother, William Caperton "Cape" Lady and Mary Metcalf. If you have information on the Lady family, I will appreciate you sharing it with me!
