HIGHLY interested in info that may be in that Smith Bible!!! I apologize for the multiple postings, I'm just trying to cover several bases. I came across these postings while researching Benjamin Smith/Mary Grimke. Benjamin Smith is supposedly my 5th Great Grandfather. All research points to that except one thing....him and his wife Sarah Dry never had children. They DID adopt 2 children, but the only name I could find was a girl Mary Ann Griffin (adopted from a doctor that died, but she died early as well and was buried beside him in a garden). Anyhoo......I came across a document that named Mary Grimke as Benjamin Smith's benefactor in his Will. I'm sure she didn't get a whole lot though because he died penniless and the authorities were actually going to hold his body to collect his debt. So i wanted to know who Mary Grimke was and came across your family tree! Very interesting! And there was even a child named Benjamin Smith Grimke, although the poor bloke died young. I've done rather EXTENSIVE research regarding Benjamin Smith and his family. Have you come across anything regarding his adopted children and/or IF he had kids with someone else? POSSIBLY a woman by the name of Gower? I would appreciate any help, the puzzle goes on!!!!
