During the reign of Napoleon I Bonaparte, Emperor of the French, King of Italy, Mediator of the Swiss Confederation and Protector of the Confederation of the Rhine (15 August 1769 – 5 May 1821 and after the death of Louis the 16th, The people of that region had been in a constant state of rebellion for half a century and longer.
The mass migration from Italy and France to the New World in the 1700's and early 1800's was largely to escape the wars of that era. Our Cirlot (See-Low) line had served for Napoleon and basically fled to escape the same death warrants as declared on the deposed King as many other line did as well.
I have alwys been fascinated about this time period in history with the English, French and Spain Monarchies. These 3 Nations truley ruled the known world for so many years but fought like cats and dogs just to be the ruling power especially on the Sea and Exploration.
My Smith line is of English ancestry and many were in service to the Throne of England as Officers for King James I - II, Charles I - II, William and Mary, George I, II and III and later as American Naval Officers to the New United States of America.
I am also an ancestor of Lord Admiral Nelson through my great grandmother Leola Ross Nelson of Baldwin Co.,AL, Her Nelson line also came to America in the late 1600's landing in Carteret area of NC. Over the course of time, the Ladnier family has joined Union with many proud Italian,French,English and Spanish families creating a very diverse ancestry.
I am most fortunate, proud and honored to be related to all that have come before me no matter what Nation they hailed from because all their sacrifices are the reasons we all are a free Nation.
