Jacqueline, I can't thank you enough for your very helpful response to my query!! (In fact, I just realized you were the one who responded to me by email regarding Noble Alexander Pool back on March 24, 2004).
At that time you also gave me a little of the background of the Pettypool (Pool) and Ladd connections.
I just came from perusing Rootsweb, and cannot believe how many incorrect "genealogies" are posted re: Thomas Ladd (son of William, Jr. and Ursula) and the correct wife....So many have him marrying Ann Ellyson. The misinformation continues to flow!!!
The reason I asked my question re: which Seth Pettypool was married to an Elizabeth Ladd is because on one of the genealogy reports I found by googling, it showed an Elizabeth marrying a Frederick Pettypool. I was hoping this was not the Elizabeth Ladd that I had assumed married Seth Pettypool!
Incidentally, I have the estate and will record of Seth Pettypool who died in 1843. (His will was dated 1838) and you are correct about a daughter named Sarah Averett/Avery. Also mentions his deceased daughter, Elizabeth Melton's sons, William and Stephen.
I noted that in the estate sale, Sarah and her husband purchased some items, as did William Melton, Dosha, Patsy, Alex Noble Pool, and Seth P. Pool (called Seth Beth).
By the way, I cannot find any census info on Sarah Averett/Avery and her husband Wyatt.....I did find him in one census......but have tried all the different spellings (and there are lots!) for Averett/Avery. They were definitely around at the time of the estate sale.....and the name was spelled Averett.....but in her father's will, (it is hard to read the writing), it looks like it is spelled Avrets.
Also, would you happen to know why Seth Pettypool only gave his son Thomas one dollar? and the real mystery....he leaves to a granddaughter named Elizabeth Daniel a dollar.Where did she come from????
There is an Elizabeth Pool in the 1850 census who is 17 years old.....living with Seth Beth Pool, Noble Alexander, Dosha, and Marsha (Patsy?). Can't figure who Elizabeth is.........
Anyway, thanks so much for your time and effort to "set the record straight"! (I wish all those who have misinformation out there would correct it!!)
