Laura Jane LaChance never married Joseph LaBrot. He died and is buried at Fredericktown. Laura married her cousin James Andrew LaChance and is buried at Knob Lick. There was never any reason given as to why there never was a marriage between Laura & Joe LaBrot. Also there may have been family members against it, or they fell out with each other.
Joe LaBrot married Rhoda Bess in Madison County on 10 Apr 1889.
I am not sure if any evidence exists that James Andrew legally adopted him, but didn't Joseph (Laura's son) go by the surname of LaChance?
I have a good file on this family if you would like it.
