FATHER JOSEPH LEBON OF ARRAS

I notice there has been some traffic about this presumed brother of Pierre the gunner who came to So. Carolina after the War. I think the source of this being a brother of Pierre's is Andrea. The geographies vary a bit for the two-- Rochefort v. Arras.... but maybe they moved.

I descend from Frances (Frankie) Laboon who married James Dalton in SC and moved to Walton Co., Ga. Their grandson Robert Mitchell was the mayor of Gainesville, Ga. for three terms and my great grandfather.

I am interested in any information on the early Le Bons. Pierre's ship, the Fendant, had as its captain the son of a governor of Canada, and he succeeded to his title Comte.

It might interest some to know that Thomas Paine, the American revolutionary and firebrand and incessant writer (Common Sense his most famous), knew Joseph Lebon and thought him thoroughly unpleasant. (an understatement?)

To wit, he wrote in one paper:

"Joseph Lebon, one of the vilest characters that ever existed, and who made the streets of Arras run with blood..."
