Rufus B? Breland born 1884/1885 in Louisiana. Rufus was 1st married to Pearlie Vince (b Apr 1882 Marion Co. MS) on June 6, 1903. On 1910 Census (Marion Co MS) he was a 24 year old widow living with Pearlie's parents, Jesse R. Vince and Elizabeth Hepsey Ann Branch, and his 2 year old son, Scott (b Jul 28 1907 Marion Co MS d Feb 7 1965 Jefferson Par LA). Scott Modes Breland is the ancestor for which I am searching. Scott was raised by his maternal grandparents. He later married Ludie Freeman. Scott’s children and grandchildren knew very little of their grandfather Rufus or his 2nd family.
Rufus next married Mamie Roberts from the Tylertown, Walthall Co, MS area. She was born about 1892 in MS. They are found on Washington Par LA in 1930. He was 45 years old. They had 6 children listed on the census: Clonia? (F age 16), Acie? (M age 14), Charlie (M age 12), Johnnie (M age 9), Robert (M age 7), and Donia? (F age 3 9/12). Rufus was a farmer and owed his land.
I have not found him on the 1920 census. On both the 1910 and 1930 census his birth place is listed as LA. However, the places of birth for his parents differ; 1910 states both were born in MS, the 1930 states both were born in LA.
I thought I found him on the 1900 census in the household of C H and Mary Breland. The Rufus in this household was born May 1882. This is 3-4 years older than the Rufus I'm researching.
Does anyone know of the Rufus Breland I'm researching? Any help would be very much appreciated.
