Nash - Choctaw connection?

In his book "The Free State of Sabine and Western Louisiana", Luther Sandel recounts local lore that Benjamin Nash, brother of Mary Nash Groves and husband of Hannah Perkins, was a Chief in the Choctaw Nation and was one of the signatories of the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek. The Choctaw Tribal Council secretary responded to an inquiry I sent and could find no Ben Nash in her Choctaw history. I got a copy of the Treaty off the internet and could find no Ben Nash on the list of signers. But where would he have gotten his Choctaw heritage? Ben and his wife Hannah resided in Vernon Parish. Does anyone have any other information that ties Ben in with the Choctaws?
