Andrew Jackson Moshat was my Great Great Grandfather. His daughter, Frances Fanny Moshat, was married to Jefferson Lorenzo (not Lafayette as stated on most documents)Phelps.
I have been unable to trace Andrew farther than finding that he was born in 1841 and adopted in 1842. I'm in contact with the Louisiana dept. that reunites families but of course that is taking a good deal of research. I will post the info' that I get on my public tree, Phelps Family Tree, and perhaps you can access it there. Wish me luck, but I fully expect to have to travel to La. to accomplish this.
Many of the Phelps' settled in Butler County Alabama, having originally come from England in 1649 on the ship, Hercules.Three brothers, Henry, Nicholas, and Johnathan settled in Salem Mass. where they were sadly persecuted for their Quaker faith. I found an article written about Hannah Lillie Baskel Phelps, Nicholas' wife and she was quite a character. If you will contact me personally I'll e-mail it to you. I'm enjoying this so much I stay up all nite working on it.
