Hello Robin, How right you are about the hardy folks living in St. Tammany Parish at that time. I would like to add the Evans family to those families that you mentioned. I think we would have a very hard time living in the conditions that they had to endure.

I would also like to recommend to you the museum in Slidell, LA. Gatherers of Slidell History, (GOSH Museum). Its curator is Charles Fritchie who is related to the Prevost family. Charles has helped me quite a lot in searching for my roots. I have quite a number of members of both Gaines and Prevost families in my files where our families have crossed paths.
