My gg-grandfather, James Madison HARRISON, according to several sources, married Nancy Bagley THURSTON in Covington, Saint Tammany Parish, LA. in 1837. It is this marriage record I am trying to locate. Some records list James Madison Harrison's birth at "about 1819 Of, Covington, Saint Tammany, Louisiana" with his death as 18 Jul 1848 in ", , Illinois." Grandmother Nancy died 12 Jan 1853 in Madisonville, Saint Tammany, Louisiana. She was born 15 Aug 1821 in Stoner's Creek,,, Ohio.

I have not been able to locate James Madison Harrison's parents. I am hoping that his birth or marriage record is available somewhere and can help connect up our family tree previous to 1819-1821. Some records show him being born about 1821 in Belleville, St Clair, IL. Any Louisiana records you can locate would be a great blessing.

Their first child, Hester Ellen, is listed as being born in Covington on 12 Jan 1838. The remaining children, Mary Frances (b 29 Feb 1840), Mary Cordelia (b 16 Mar 1842), Isaac (b 20 Oct 1844), and Benjamin (b 17 May 1847) are all reported to have been born "Of, Belleville, St Clair, Illinois."

Benjamin was my grandfather, Barney James Harrison's dad. Benjamin married Arvanzina Arnold there in Louisiana. Barney married Mamie McManus. My dad was Van Hardin Harrison. The Harrison family settled in Denham Springs, Livingston Parish, La. Earlier (1800's) residences included East Feliciana and Saint Tammany parishes.

The Thurstons's (Benjamin and Susan Hardy Thurston) and BAGLEY'S followed Nancy to SE Louisiana. My gg-grandfather, Benjamin Harrison, died 27 Jan 1898 in La.

I have searched extensively for info back to 1820 on James Madison HARRISON but am at a wall on him... any help would be appreciated,

God bless you and yours

Mike Harrison Sr
