I discovered that what appeared to be M. Stanley in the census actually was "Mrs." Stanley. I know from other sources that her name was Emily Donoho Stanley. She and her husband, Alfred M. Stanley, moved to St. Mary Parish from North Carolina in the mid 1840s. Sugar census records switch from his name to her name in 1855, suggesting that he died in the mid 1850s. Sometime after 1860 Emily Donoho Stanley moved to Hinds County, Mississippi, where she died in 1866.

I am seeking info on any of Emily and Alfred's children. I'm not at all confident that the census-taker in 1860 recorded all of their names correctly. Emma, age 5, is almost certainly correct. It's the others that are questionable.
