I'm guessing from all of hte information that you have already that you've checked Father Hebert's SW LA Records.
Did you happen to notice that in Ashford and Marie Louise Barre's marriage record mentioned where he came from?

Thomas & Cressy ASHFORD - native of Berkly County, Virginia) Wits: James MILLER, Louis GUEDRY, Martin SUDRIQUE, Jacques TOUSSAINT, RUELLAND, Augusta VIOLETT. Fr. Gabriel ISABEY (SM Ch.: v.5, #231)
You may want to check out Berkley County, VA.
I couldn't find any records pointing to Marie Louise and her third husband Edward Robertson after 25 May 1816, when she acted for her husband in the baptism of Jean Pierre Close. There are no Robertsons listed in the 1820 census for St. Martin Parish, either (and no Edward Robertsons at all in LA, although there are 2 E. Robertsons). It's possible that they moved.

If he had left anything to his brother, and his brother was implicated in his murder, it may be mentioned in the succession.
