Hi Dorothy.

I'm guessing from all of hte information that you have already that you've checked Father Hebert's SW LA Records.

Did you happen to notice that in Ashford and Marie Louise Barre's marriage record mentioned where he came from?

BARRE, Marie Louise - widow of Joseph Pierre NEZAT (Charles & Magdelaine DECUIR) m. contract dated: 14 Dec. 1811 Ashferd VIOLETT - native of Virginia (Thomas & Cressy ASHFERD) Wits: James MILLER, Louis GUIDRY, Martin SOUDRIQUE, Victorin GUIDRY; Seth LEWIS, Parish Judge (SM Ct.Hse.: OA-v.26, #240)

BARRE, Marie Louise - inhabitant of this parish, native of Opeloussas (major daughter of Charles & Magdeleine DESCUIRS) The bride is widow from her first marriage to Joseph Pierre NEZAT. m. 14 Dec. 1811 Ashford VIOLETT - inhabitant of this parish (major son of dec. Thomas & Cressy ASHFORD - native of Berkly County, Virginia) Wits: James MILLER, Louis GUEDRY, Martin SUDRIQUE, Jacques TOUSSAINT, RUELLAND, Augusta VIOLETT. Fr. Gabriel ISABEY (SM Ch.: v.5, #231)

You may want to check out Berkley County, VA.

I couldn't find any records pointing to Marie Louise and her third husband Edward Robertson after 25 May 1816, when she acted for her husband in the baptism of Jean Pierre Close. There are no Robertsons listed in the 1820 census for St. Martin Parish, either (and no Edward Robertsons at all in LA, although there are 2 E. Robertsons). It's possible that they moved.

You may also want to check out Ashford's probate:
BARRE, Marie Louise m. Ashford VIOLETTE. In Succ. of Ashford VIOLETT Dated 3 Oct. 1812 (SM Ct.Hse.: Succ.#120)

If he had left anything to his brother, and his brother was implicated in his murder, it may be mentioned in the succession.
I'm not sure what this is:
VIOLETT, Ashford m. Marie Louise BARRE. In Succ. of Marie Louise BARRE dated 4 Nov. 1813 (SM Ct.Hse.: Succ.#143)

Good luck!
Karen
