Hi Ms. Sherman. My name is Merwin Charles Gerard and I guess I have kinda two search request.
(1)I am looking for any info on the Gerard family which lived in St Martinsville. Specifically, Jospeh Gerard ( my great-grandfather) he fathered Charles Gerard ( my grandfather). Charles was born in 1898 and died in the mid fifties in St. Martinsville.

Charles' mother (my great-grandmother)was Elena Thibodeaux. I have checked that family genealogy and have had inquiries but came up short. Today I found out from an uncle that Elena may have been a freed slave owned I assume by the Thibodeaux's, therefore, there maybe no records with the Catholic church of a marriage with Joseph though they had 20 children.
(2)So if possible if you can check for any slave records for the Thibodeaux family with a girl named Elena. Joseph was not a slave.
Thank you, excuse the long written request. I am excited by the potential of finding out about my ancestors and well I majored in Jounalism in college. Again THANKS!!!!!
