This is my gggrandfather. I have very little info to go on, just a few sentences passed down in our family. C.C.was born 1830 supposedly in Rapides Parish. In the mid 1840's his parents died, or the last one died, leaving him and two sisters (supposedly orphaned). In 1847/1848 he went to Polk Co., TX with a John Marsh family and a group from mostly Rapides Parish. Some of the family names in the group were Marsh, Poindexter, Mainer, DeLaFosse and others. My ggrandmother was very sure the name was spelled REID, however I find it spelled many different ways in records. As far as I know the sisters did not go to TX with him and there is no evidence that they came later. The info does not mention if the sisters were older or younger that he. Although it was thought he was born Rapides Parish, I am not positive. Most of the families that went to Polk Co. were from Rapides, but I have found some listed in St.Landry records. This has been one of my "brick walls" for about 30 years and would greatly appreciate it if someone has any info that might help me break through.
