I am trying to find the marriage records for my ancestors, Savan (Sevigne) Sonnier and Mary Marguerite (Anicias) Sonnier. Their first child, Edwal, was baptized c. 1861 in St. Charles Borromeo Church in Grand Coteau, LA. I can find no record of this marriage in Father Hebert's SW LA records. This church has replied that they have no record of such a marriage. However, in my genealogical research I have noted that many times the facilities do not have the people to help in research and therefore give back a pat answer that no records were found when they probably did not even look due to this lack of personnel. It makes research by mail very difficult as one never knows if a sincere effort was made to find the record. I believe Savan and Marguerite Sonnier were first cousins and they were therefore required to obtain a dispensation in order to get married. Savan was the son of Joseph Sonnier, Jr. and Carmelite Boudreaux. Marguerite was the daughter of Charles Sonnier and Carmelite Hebert. Savan was born c. 1842 and Marguerite was born c. 1843 according to Father Hebert's records. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Notify Administrator about this message?
