Thomas & David SCARER, Louisiana, 1816 LA
Posted by: Ed Killian (ID *****5601) Date: March 21, 2004 at 16:25:05

Seeking additional information on Nancy Scarer (Searcy?), who married Henry Leach on June 16, 1816 in St. Helena Parish, Louisiana.

Leach was a blacksmith and Nancy was previously married to a Scarer (Searcy?). Her maiden name is unknown, but she is a granddaughter of George Killian, 1740-1830, of St. Helena Parish, LA.

At the time of their marriage, Nancy was widowed of her marriage to Thomas Scarer(Searcy?) and was serving as tutrix to the children of Thomas' brother, David Scarer(Searcy?). I have no further information on the Scarer(Searcy?) brothers.

In 1813, a William Leach was a member of the Police Jury representing a ward in the parish of St. Helena and later, Tangipahoa Parish. Henry Leach was still in the area of St. Helena Parish and was at the Montpelier Inn in July, 1819.

One report indicates that on Jan. 16, 1867 the Springfield Post Office was back in operation with a Henry Leach as postmaster. Although there is no Leach in the 1870 Census for Livingston Ph., LA, the 1860 Census shows a Henry Leach, age 60, a lawyer born in Massachusetts with $6000 of personal value. It is not confirmed that this is the same Henry Leach who married Nancy Scarer (Searcy?)

Any help would be appreciated.
