Hest Nichols Holden states her husband died Sept. 25, 1844 in Sabine Parish without leaving a will. Widow named as Hester Nichols Holden. Minor children named included Willis, Franklin, and Rutha Ann Holden. Mother named as natural Tutrix of the minor children. Undertutor named as Mahlon Holden. Family meeting held with those present listed as William B. Abbott, John P. Holden, Mangum W. Holden and John Saffeel, relatives of the minors and Chichester Chaplin, friend.

Appraisers listed as Mahlon Holden and Chicester Chaplin Propertey included an improvement with Mill on a public lot Total Value of estate 1202.50. Administrators bond posted with Hester Nichols Holden as principal and William B. ABbott and Mahlon as security. Witnesses SS Eason and WRD Speight. Property sold in order that debts could be paid. Purchasers listed as Jesse D. Craft, Mangum Holden, Morris jOhnson, John P. Holden, Fletcher Rollins, Willis Holden, William B. Abbot and John Saffell.
