Jasper McCormick was my father-in law's grandfather. Jasper and Georgia's first child was Melvin McCormick who died as a young man. My father-in-law was Melvin's older son, Melvin Jr.

The story he was told about Jasper's half Indian mother (whose mother died at childbirth)--the mother of the Palmer family interseded with the tribe who said that the half Indian infant was to be left to die.

The family of the boy who got the mother pregnant was told where the infant would be abandoned and the infant was taken into the Palmer family to be reared.

I am unclear who was the father in this story.
