I'm so glad to hear from you! According to the census records of 1850 and 1860, Joseph would have been born about 1805. The 1870 census states that his age was 56, placing his date of birth around 1814. I have never been able to find a baptismal or marriage record for him. I have speculated that Joseph Chevalier, Jr. and Rosalie LaPrairie were his parents, but I have found no proof of this. What information do you have? I know that two of his brothers were Willis Stephen and Ursin. They are next door neighbors in the census, and I have old letters that prove that Joseph and Willis Stephen were brothers. I don't have much information on Ursin other than he was a musician and a "ne'er-do-well." My grandpa said that Augustus Chevalier was their brother too, but he settled at Holloway Prairie and the other three went to Spring Creek near Melder. My gg-grandfather was named after Augustus. His name was Evariste Augustus Chevalier. I will be glad to send you their descendants if you're interested.
