Years ago when Hwy 28 East was known as Holloway Prarie Road...there was a sign that said hwy 28 was on the site of the old El Camino Real....in fact that is what we were taught in school. The sign was taken down years ago ....

Is the fork you are talking about on the end of Catahoula lake near Archie known as French Fork....the junction of Little River and Catahoula.....

Having been raised off Hwy 28 E....in Barron Community...near Holloway (both of which are named after ancestors) there is a tale told of a band of Indians that robbed a bank in Natchez and made their way down to this area along the Real and was captured by a posse. But somewhere along the way....and it is believed that it was in this area.....they hid their booty. I know I am wandering, but it came to mind. Just asked if my 7th grader learned about the Real in Louisiana History and she said no.....I know that I did learn this when I was in 7th grade.
