Mary Celima Stagg Hanks

Mary Celima Stagg was born Aug. 1, 1862 and died in 1947. She is buried at the Butter Cemetery near Forest Hill, Rapides Parish, La. She married Nathan Hanks on Aug. 7, 1879. Their children were: 1) My grandmother, NINA RUTH HANKS (b. Oct. 27, 1891; d. July 16, 1962). 2) ADA EDNA HANKS (b. July 17, 1886; d. Oct. 05, 1959); m. ROBERT HURST on Nov. 08, 1905. 3) LAWRENCE CLEVELAND HANKS (b. Jan. 1888; d. 1951); m. LENA NUGENT LAUNIUS. 4) WALTER WILLIAM HANKS (b. May 03, 1883; d. 1957); m. ZENOBIA EMELINE BRIAN, Dec. 24, 1911. 5) CLARA ALICE HANKS (b. Apr. 14, 1894; d. Jun. 18, 1968); m. WILLIE WARREN ODOM. 6) OLLIE ELVIE HANKS (b. Feb. 10, 1896; d. 1973); m. LEONARD CHAFFIN. &) DELMA IONE HANKS (b. Sept. 19, 1898; d. Oct. 21, 1971); m. LEROY SAVAGE.

Mary Celima Stagg's father was Rev. Adolphe Stagg (b. Dec. 17, 1834; d. Apr. 17, 1914). He was a pioneer Baptist preacher to the French-speaking people of Louisiana. He married Ultima Caratine (and later Cordelia Pevy).
