I am looking for information on the father of my GGGgrandfather, Louis Jules ST.GERMAIN (see information below). I THINK he father may have been Jean Baptiste St. Germain, married to Victore Delage, but I can't make the actual connection. Any help would be much appreciated!
I do not think we are related to the St. Bernard Parish de St. Germains, although my grandfather always told us our name used to be "de St.Germain" but the "de" was dropped.
Sheryl St. Germain
Louis Jules ST. GERMAIN (Sr) (1821-1885) was born about 1821 in Point Coupee Parish, LA. He married Dorothea Boudreaux August 17, 1853. They had 10 children: Joseph Aristide (1854-1888), Louis Jules Jr (1845-1885), Marie Emma (1859-1936)*, Edward (1860-) Marie Judith (1861-1894), Jean Felix (1864-1883), Eugene (1867-), Anais (1869-) Marie M (1872-) and Marie Ella (1875-1965). In the 1860 census they are living in Point Coupee and he is listed as the Postmaster of Waterloo. In 1865 he is listed in the U.S. IRS Tax Assessment as a “retail liquor dealer.” 1870 census they are living in Ward 7, Pointe Coupee. He is 49 and Dorothea is 35. Aristide (15), Jules (13) Edward (11) Enrietta (9), Judith (7), Felix (5), Evariste (3) and Marie 10/12 are also listed as living there. In the 1880 census he is listed as age 59, profession carpenter, wife and 9 children, including Jules Jr, living with him. Father and mother’s birthplace listed as Louisiana.
(Louis) Jules ST.GERMAIN (Jr) (1856-1920) was born in Pointe Coupee, LA and died June 15, 1920 in New Orleans, LA. He married Philomene Aimee D’Aquin (1869-1946) on October 28, 1896 in Orleans parish. They had three children: Louis (1899-1914), Alta (1900-1980) and Francois Albin (1906-1980). In the 1860 census he is listed as “Louis,” age 5 living with father Jules, mother Dorothee, brothers Aristide and J. Edouward, sister Emma and “wdw” St. Germain, aged 60. His father is listed as a Postmaster, which is interesting since Jules Jr will go on to work for the post office. In the 1870 Census he is living in Ward 7, Point Coupee with his mother and father, brothers and sisters. He is 13. In the 1880 Census he is living in the 5th Ward of Pointe Coupe, age 24, with his father, mother and brothers and sisters. His occupation is listed as a carpenter (as is his father’s) and he is listed as single. In the 1900 census he is married, listed as age 44 living with his wife, Aimie, son Louis and daughter Alta, 1563 N. Roman Street. The census states they were married in 1896 and have been married for 4 years, so either they had children together before they were married or he was married to someone else before meeting Aimee. His occupation looks like “railway police.” He lists both his mother and father as being born in Louisiana. In the 1910 census his age is listed as 53, and he is living with his wife and three children. Albin is 3. They are living on 82 Davis St. in Fulton County, Georgia. His occupation is listed as “Railway Post office” and they are renting. In the 1920 census he living at 1821 LaHarpe with his family. He is listed as age 44, Aimee (Annie) wife is listed as 52, and Albin is listed as 13. The “44” must be a mistake: he is 63 or 64 at this time. They own their home. He is listed as a clerk for railway mail. They are living in a mixed neighborhood, the only whites—most neighbors are listed as Black or Mulatto. He died 15 June 1920, and the Death record lists his name, if this is him, as Louis Jules St. Germain.
Francois Albin ST. GERMAIN (1906-1980) was born in New Orleans and died in Metaire, LA. He married Celeste Fontenot (1910-1988) in 1928 in Ville Platte, LA. They were both deaf. They had one child, Jules Francois ST. GERMAIN, b. 1930.
Jules Francois ST.GERMAIN Sr (1930-1989) was born at home in New Orleans in 1930. He married his cousin, Myrl Marie FRANK (1932-) in 1953 in New Orleans. Myrl and Jules had five children: Sheryl Ann (1954-), Holly Aimee (1955), Jules Francois Jr (Jay, 1958-1981)), Andre Paul (1964-2005), and Tanya Marie (1968).
