States: Louisiana: Ouachita
Looking for information on William Burney Sr., William Burney Jr., Dorcas, Hannah, and Elizabeth Arrie. William Burney Sr. arrived at the Ouachita in May of 1797 with the Bastrop party from Kentucky via New Madrid, Mo., and Natchez. In his household were his wife, a white orphan 1 year old called Elizabeth Arrie, and an 11 year old "negresse" Dorcas. Dorcas later married Charlot Roi, a free man born at the Ouachita circa 1780. Elizabeth Arrie, may be the Elizabeth Irik, born in Kentucky, who married Augustine Roy in 1815. At some point Burney also held as an identured servant a woman called Hannah, born in 1786. Hannah was originally bond to John Burney, son of William, Sr., who was killed in or near Rapides in the early 1800's. Hannah appears in court to petion release from her bond in 1815, and is never seen in the records after that date. Does anyone have any information on the Burneys or any of the above mentioned people. Would especially like to know exactly where Burney lived prior to the Ouachita.
