Judy, the New Orleans Public Library is the place to search. They have Charity Hospital death records at:

Also, make sure to click on "burial records" at the left of the screen.

Charity Hospital's "paupers" cemetery is on Canal Street, near City Park Avenue. Several years ago there was a scandal of sorts due to the dumping of medical waste and slip shod burial practices. I THINK it is closed to the public now but can't be sure. The cemetery was, to my recollection, poorly maintained for years so finding a marker from 1881 may be quite a challenge (if one was ever placed). Rick
