Thanks, Richard! Any & all information is appreciated, believe me. I have a copy of one obituary for Simon, which is what gave rise to my original query. I'll have to try to get that NO Customs House history through inter-library loan -- have had success with that in the past, once i had a title & author.
Yes, that is the reference for Simon's death cert (which i have not yet ordered). Yes, Marie Eugenia Coste was his wife; the reference for her death cert is: Orleans Parish Death Register Index V154 P7. My wife is the 5th in her line to carry some form of the name 'Eugenia'.
I have a copy of one obit for Simon, from another researcher relative. I'll have to put together an order for obits, records etc from the library -- hopefully, they're recovered from the hurricanes by now.
Concerning destroyed records, we're trying to get information about my father-in-law, from the Army. He served in WWII, and then worked for the Army until his death. Unfortunately, there was a fire at the Army Records Center here in St. Louis, back in 1973, and it appears that his records may have been among those destroyed in the fire. So close...
