Kueffner/Keifner - 1860

I am searching for the arrival of the Kueffner family - particularly, William C. Kueffner, age 16 about 1856. By 1861 he had enlisted in the Union Army in Illinois and became a Brigadier General. He fought valiantly at Shiloh and was wounded three times. Eventually he became an assessor and a lawyer and was encouraged to run for Congress.

It is possible that he is related to the John Keifner family, located in Ward 1, New Orleans, in the 1860 census. I would like to correspond to others searching for these families.

I am not related, but my granddaughter has become interested in the beautiful monument erected at his gravesite in St. Clair County, Illinois. For her, it is an history lesson; for me, a lifelong passion.

You may contact me at maestrowz@aol.com. Thank you.
