1800's Suicide at Red River

I am trying to find information about an apparent suicide by one of my ancestors. He was said to have riden his horse off the bluff over looking Red River near Natchitoches. I believe his surname may have been Henderson, but possibly Henson or Hinson. Not sure about the name, but believe such an unusal event must be recorded somewhere. Would appreciate any leads of any kind.
