I know this is awfully delayed from most-recent discussions, but I have some connections with Rapides Parish Chevaliers. My grandfather Michael (Marchand?) Chevalier(d. 1910, Texas) was born in Rapides Parish, near Forest Hill. He was later an engineers (dams) and died in Gainesville, Texas where he was head of the waterworks he had built. He had 3 sons, Michael, Julier (Cad) and Pierre and a daughter, Inez, all now deceased.My dad was Cad;
we used to visit(c.1966-70)with his childhood cousins in Forest Hill. His cousin there was Carrie Chevalier Dewitt.
I've lost track of these cousins. We have a wonderful family tree on the non-Chevalier side but none on the Louisiana Chevalier side, to speak of. Interestingly, there was a cousin Will to grandpa Mike, married into a Mormon dairy community in East Texas. Sure would like to see an image of the Stephen mentioned (high Gallic forehead?), 'cause the mystery deepens: we thought Gran's father might've been named Etienne or Stephen. Open to any/all thoughts based on Rapides info. I live in Dallas, with a brother, Lewis Michael Chevalier.1/21/02
