First, do you know the state where your were born? Usually the states have the original birth certificate and the adoptive birth certificate.
Second, Find out where your mother died. There should be a death notice in the paper.
You can research the newspapers about that time. Were you born in a hospital? Look at the newspapers for a birth notice.
You can also go to Ancestry.Com and put in the name 'Chalfont' or Chalfant [I did not find any spelling for the name Chalfont]. Look at the telephone directory and start a mail compaign. Send letter out a form letter to all the listings. Perhaps, you might come up with a cousin or older relative or perhaps your sister.
