Thanks Thomas for your response! Yes, I am very aware that the term African-American is more modern. I was writing to the present day audience to show respect. Yes, I'm aware that 1940 is the most recent available census. I've been researching since 1995. Just finished the first edition book of my ancestor's history. I'm now working on the contemporary family members for a private edition. Thank you again for your response! Catherine
