The line seems to be the same with Stephen being the father of Reddick according to will records.

My grandfathers are John Stephen Howell, Joseph Stephen Howell and Henry Grady Howell. My father William Grady Howell.

I have a good lead that John was Reddick's son.

Ephraim may have been related to Reddick. Don't know for sure. I do know that the Howell family had holdings in Northern Lousiana. Ephraim moved to Lousiana with DuBose family.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Make it a great day!

Michael G.
Fort Worth

Summary to-date.
In researching my family, I have made it to John S. Howell (blacksmith) m. Martha S. Sweatt in Ramer, Montgomery, AL 1850s. One family story has his parents moving to the area along with the Sweatts from SC. I think they came from SC via GA.
Names in the family born in Montgomery AL are Sarah, Mary, William Henderson (MD) attended Medical School in Atlanta, John Thomas (Methodist Minister) attended colleges in Montgomery, Joseph Stephen (Methodist Minister)(my GGF) unknown education pattern, Julia, Whittington, Ella, Charles.
My GGGF John S(?) Howell 22 on the 1850 census in AL living with Nancy Susan Howell Cook 24, daughter of Reddick Howell and Comfort Sullivan of Lenoir NC. John S.(?) married Martha Sweatt oldest daughter of Whittington Sweatt and settled in Ramer.

There is a Red Howell in Sumter, SC in 1820 and 1830. And there is some information from the DuBose family history that indicates Reddick may have used the initials (T.R.) Possible first name Thomas fits with family naming.

Reddick and Comfort moved to Ramer between 1831-1837 per birth records of children. JJ Sullivan also moved to Montgomery area. Probably Comfort's brother or cousin. JJ's mother was also named Comfort Sullivan.

Still looking for Howell family ties in NC/SC.
Howell Family information in Sumter SC. Need to focus on tax records, land records and wills in NC/SC
