Perhaps one of the greatest military adventures in American History would be of a direct result of these Confederates being captured at Huntsville, Alabama. General Mitchell captured Huntsville to dove-tail with Andrews Raiders and the stolen train in Georgia. This led to the very first Congressional Medals of Honor to be issued. If anyone has any ties to the Confederate side of the prisoners they should be equally as proud as their ancestors were a part of a great adventure in American History. Both movies and books have been writen about this military exploit. The term lyin' thieven' Yankees also came from this venue. The Union soldiers dressed as civilians lied as to who they were and stole a train at Big Shanty, Georgia.
