Judy Grimes asked me to reply to you as her health does not permit her to do genealogy any more. I believe I have found Temperence Cotton Gentry in 1870 and 1860. I regret that neither Judy nor myself have absolute, positive proof that your Laura Ella Gentry married "our" James M Patterson. Certainly the age and date looks correct and likely. However, in the 1930 Census James M. Patterson born TX ~ 1862 and his wife Artenese in Morehouse Parish, LA.

Are you sure about the 1886 marriage date? I found a 1900 Census for James M. Patterson wife Laura and son William in which they claim to have been married 19 years (1881)
Amamda Gentry Sanders Russell married 13 Jan 1873 Sabine Parish.(marriage online at Ancestry).
