Thank you so much for this information. It has helped to lead me to more information. I am sure this is the same A.D. Ratcliff who appears on the 1840 Census in Catahoula Parish, 1850 Census in Concordia Parish, 1860 Census in Concordia Parish, then 1870 and 1880 Census in Chicot County, Arkansas.
Getting Eliza's last name and their marriage date also reveals that she must be his second wife if they married in 1844. The 1840 Census shows a female 20-29 and male 5-9 who do not appear on the 1850 Census; Eliza, age 42 on the 1850 Census is the only female who could be his wife. She would have been in the 30-39 range in 1840, not 20-29.
This would mean that after the 1840 Census, another child was born to A.D. and first wife in 1841, then before he married Eliza in 1844, his first wife and the youngest child from the 1840 Census died; the child born in 1841 is showing on the 1850 Census.
I would love to have that mini-biography of Isaiah Ratcliff. If you could post it, that would be great. It may help others as well as me.
I still need to find out what the initials A.D. stand for as well as the children's initials. I think that will help to identify clearly if they are the ones I am seeking.
Thanks again for all your help.
