Eliz. Milam, Stille ties in La
I am looking for the ancestors of Eliz. Chambers Milam. Her mother was Ann Stille(Stilly/Steele)Chambers, a widow running a boarding house in Cook County, Ill in l850. Her father was Stephen Chambers from Virginia(all I know about him).My family believes Eliz. and her mother had ties with Joseph D. Stille, who was born in Woodbury, New Jersey in l82l and moved eventually to Robeline, La, where he built a store.I was told Eliz. Chambers Milam maintained ties with Joe Stille and his son, Norris, until her death in l903.The Stilles located around the Methodist Churh in Robeline, where a Dutch settlement was established.I read that the first settlers of New Jersey were Dutch and Swedish.I also learned that Joe's eldest brother, Robert B. Stille moved to Many, La., and another brother, William B. Stille, died in Many.Joe became clerk of court in Many for 6 years and went to Texas after the death of his brother Robert in l869. I would appreciate any info. anyone can share with me on the Stille family.Thanks.Bonnie
