I'm not related, just trying to help.

The land patent for Robert McGinty from 1861 in St. Helena says he was from Lawrence Co, Mississippi. On the same day a John Allison Gill, also of Lawrence Co, Mississippi patented land adjoining Robert McGinty's land.

The only Robert McGinty I could find in Lawrence Co, AL is this one. He seems to be boarding with a Brister family. There's a dark streak where the page was taped together across the census page that makes it hard to read some of the information. If this is your Robert, where's the rest of his family?

1860 United States Federal Census

And are these 2 more of their children living in Livingston Parish? William is listed as a cousin of James Johnson. It might be worth checking out James Johnson and his wife Margaret.
