Doug,

I look at the 1870 Union Parish, Ward 1, Louisiana Census and it was enumerated on 8 June 1870.

I looked at the 1870 Butler County, Alabama Census you found for Lazarus Smith where he is living with James Smith and it was enumerated on 18 July 1870.

Is it possible that Eliza died soon after the Census taking and that Lazarus moved back to Alabama to live with his son James and was enumerated a second time on that census?

Debbie
